About Me
I have been playing drums for over 20 years and teaching for over 10.
As well as teaching privately, I was previously a tutor for the Barnet Education Arts Trust, Head of Drum Kit and Percussion at a Clifton Hall School on the outskirts of Edinburgh, taught in the world renowned Mike Dolbear London Drum School, and, in 2014 and 2016 was asked to manage and teach in the London Drum Show Education Zone.
I have studied in the USA with John Riley (Village Vanguard Orchestra) at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City, Carter McLean (The Lion King - Broadway Production, NYC), Chris Coleman (Beck, Chaka Khan), Stanton Moore (Galactic), Mark Guiliana (David Bowie, MG Quartet), as well as with some of the UK's finest educators including Mike Dolbear (London Olympics Opening Ceremony, UEFA Champions League Final, The Talk of London), Ash Soan (The Voice), Ralph Salmins (Van Morrison, The Waterboys) and Neal Wilkinson (Annie Lennox, James Morrison).
This education has given me not only a great knowledge of all styles of music and what is involved in playing music, but also helped me define my own teaching style and be able relate all elements of my lessons to real life situations.
Drum Kit Lessons
My drum lessons help to build self esteem through positive re-inforcement and encouragement.
Drumming uses both side of the brain leading to increased concentration and creativity.
I offer one to one drum kit lessons in South West London.
I draw upon my own experiences to assist students to fulfill their potential and to achieve their individual aims.
Drum kit lessons are provided on a one to one basis for all ages and abilities. Each lesson is tailored to the individual requirements of the student.
Every pupil has the opportunity to study professionally accredited exams (Grade 1 - 8) from Trinity College London if they wish.
Lessons are mobile and can be held in the comfort of your own home or in a music studio on an acoustic drum kit in a sound proof and air-conditioned room. .
As well as teaching the fundamentals of drumming (rhythms and styles, rudiments, fills, sight reading, music theory), I also teach more advanced topics including independence, jazz in depth, linear drumming, chart reading and much more. Students can also learn how to tune and maintain drums, how to network and find gigs /opportunities and how to use social media to showcase yourself.
I also offer career advice and coaching.
